What was that?

I’ve always been a closet competitor.  If it is something you have not heard of, it is when someone is competitive yet does not show it.  I guess with that I just put more pressure on myself.  It comes out every once in a while but I have learned to control it over the last 4 years.  This past weekend I didn’t even think about it.

I had my first crossfit competition an event called the Festivus Games.  It was four workouts with a partner that took place over 3 hours.  My partner and I went in for the fun, we had practiced for the past month and half but some of the workouts kicked out butts, so we chose the name The No Cardio Kids.

The No Cardio Kids

Going in with a  group from my box, crossfit term for gym, I thought we should finish top third in our division. What I did not research was there were only 9 teams in our division, to finish in the top 1/3 would mean placing.  Had I done that I would have been adjusting to finish in the top half.

The first two workouts were in our favor, it was about pushing weight around and having fun.  We did that and took first place in time and fourth in reps completed, I can’t explain how that is but it is what it is.  We just had a blast and that is what I wanted the rest of the way.  I didn’t over think any workout just completed them to the best of my ability and I tried to keep my partner in a mellow state of mind.  All that worked out and our group did well overall.

I left the event to set up the bar for a gathering.  Little did I know I should have stuck around.  As I pulled into the parking lot one of my fellow group members messaged me, my partner and I got 3rd place.  I was happy but also disappointed, I left my partner to stand on the podium all by himself.  I was ready to drink some drinks I was not thinking we would place, not after the last workout….yet we did.  I apologized for that as we all gathered for beers and food but damn what a hell of a day.  As I write this I’m still sore, damn kettlebell swings.

Sometimes we just do stuff to hae a great time with great people and that is all what Saturday was.  A nice easy day workingout and having fun.  I’m greatful for the great day that it was and for future events I’ll just bring a cooler of beer and some whiskey to celebrate in the parking lot.
